No Compromise
Nearly 45 years ago, the US Army replaced the venerable .45 Colt with a 9 millimeter, hammer pressed handgun, nicknamed the "wonder nine". In the years since arms producers began stepping over themselves to produce this new firearm, an even more advanced handgun has appeared center stage. H&K recently rolled out the new VP9, joining in the production of striker-fired handguns that are changing the face of firearms all over the world. The polymer frame, striker-action semi-automatic is already being scooped up by law enforcement agencies and special forces groups all across Europe and the America's.
For the US military, the M16 family of rifles is a venerable and esteemed group. From the XM16 in the Early 60's, to the M16a4 and M4 Carbine used by the Marines and Army, respectively, there are few rifles that match this families fame. However, the model isn't getting any younger. As technology advances, and weapon making becomes ever more complex, it is obvious that a new rifle is needed. As the DoD faces the ever growing issue of choosing a new service rifle, H&K brings forth the new HK416 assault rifle. Outwardly similar to the M16, it is anything but. Using a short-piston blowback system, the weapon is much more resistant to carbon wear and tear. Also, this closed system protects it from dust and grime stoppages, one of the main faults of the M16 family. The HK416 also has an interchangeable barrel, and is much lighter do to primarily polymer parts. Chambered for either the 6.8 SPC or NATO 5.56, this deadly weapon is ready for when the US DoD goes looking for a new rifled killing machine.
